Marridale launches Envirolab monitoring programme

Marridale Resources today announced Envirolab, a programme of permanent environmental monitoring installations to be built across the catchments in which the company operates.

Each installation samples air, soil and surface water continuously, and transmits to a central facility rather than relying on scheduled collection. The first two installations are in commissioning. The company expects the network to reach full coverage during 2029.

Executive General Manager, Environment and Approvals, Dr Anh Trieu, said the programme was a direct consequence of the commitment made in February to measure rather than to model. “Our licences are written around numbers we take four times a year,” she said. “Four times a year tells you what happened. It does not tell you what is happening. Envirolab is us deciding we would rather know.”

Installations are sited for catchment coverage rather than for proximity to our operations, and several will stand on land Marridale neither holds nor intends to hold. Where an installation sits on a pastoral lease, access arrangements have been agreed with the leaseholder and compensation is payable annually.

The installations are unstaffed and are not open to the public. Data will be published in the annual sustainability report and provided to the relevant authority on request.
